This site was created to help every Arizona horse person become more involved and educated in the care your horse's hooves. Barefoot Perfomance: Barrel Racing

"Eventing without shoes is a breeze! Have a look at Tetley, Scooby and Felix if you still don’t believe us..."
Barefoot Performance: Police Work

Left:Officer Sokoloski with his barefoot police horse, Shadow, a Dutch Warmblood Right: Scottsdale and most of Phoenix police department have been riding in boots or bare for 10 years! Chicago, New York, and Houston Police department have gone bare...and more are joining in every year!
Barefoot Performance: Foxhunting
"These horses are very surefooted and have better traction than the shod horses."
Barefoot Performance: Endurance Racing
Karen and Chief, who received Horse of the Year award, compete every year in 50-100 mile endurance races without steel shoes! Karen uses boots to help Chief on rough terrain. Easy boot epics and bares have excellent traction and make the more dangerous areas SAFER and easier to ride! Easycare Boots do not slip and slide like steel can.

John Lyons
Horse Trainer/ClinicianHorse & Rider, "Is Barefoot Better?"
Clinician John Lyons hasnt shod his horses in over 10 years; other natural horsemanship advocates are also embracing barefootedness. "You don't need shoes just because you ride a horse, and leaving shoes off is ideal for forming a healthier, stronger foot.
Clinton Anderson
Horse Trainer/Clinician
Horse & Rider, "Is Barefoot Better?"
"With the right trimming, there's no reason to shoe. The feet don't change overnight -- I've found it takes anywhere from six months to a year for them to fully make the transition -- but when they do, they get hard and strong and tough enough for any kind of riding."Pete Ramey

Horse & Rider, "Is Barefoot Better?"
"Because the bare foot is such an effective blood pump, the horse's heart doesn't have to work as hard. Endurance riders have known this for a while -- it's why many of them use boots instead of shoes: Their horses recover faster....Trimming barefoot riding horses demands a higher level of intuition and competency. A horseshoe or a hoof boot can hide even the most serious errors in judgement (for a while). A mistake on a barefoot riding horse will tell on you in a heartbeat!"

Throughout Arizona, I offer workshops to teach individuals how to care for the equine foot. You will learn the trim, maintenance, anatomy and function and how food can affect you're horse's behavior, function, and growth.
Trimming your shod horse during the summer periods when they are not being ridden, as well as trimming your barefoot horse is easier than you think. With these workshops you will learn how to do your own trims and will learn how to prevent common hoof problems. I can offer you :
Note:This work is not meant to replace veterinary care!
If you are like most horse owners, the costs are getting out of control. Between the cost of hay, farrier, supplements, and veterinary expenses, many horse owners are struggling to keep up. Learning how to trim your horse can save you a substantial amount of money.
If you want to keep your horse shod, but want to learn more about anatomy, function, what to feed, are having chronic hoof problems, or just want to know enough to understand your farriers work, these workshops will help you, and more importantly, will help your horse!

We use a non-invasive, comfort first approach to trimming and develop the same strong mustang roll that is seen in wild horses.
As a Barefoot care educator my mission is to help every horse owner in Arizona learn enough about the horses hoof that we can eliminate many of the recurring hoof problems we face every day!
So call today to set up a workshop in your area. As a host, you will attend for free!
